Big Room Reveal

It snowed again. Yes, on the first day of spring, we got another snowstorm. Die, winter, die!

On the bright side of being stuck inside again, the boys napped for 3 hours today, and I decided to snap some quick photos of Ellie’s room while we girls enjoyed the quiet afternoon together. So you all get another mini house update. :P #thrills

One thing we learned very quickly in this house – work with light, neutral, easily switched around colors. The nursery is a perfect example. When we first moved in, we painted it bright blue and green to match Mikey’s bed-in-a-bag baby decor. When Ellie was born, it became this:

By the time I was pregnant with Lucas, we’d figured things out a little better, and made sure to make a neutral room that could be easily transformed if/when necessary. It ended up like this:

I have to say, that nursery was my favorite room in the house, and I was just a teensy bit bummed when we realized Ellie was better off in her own space, and the boys were better off sharing the bigger room. In the end, though, she was thrilled with the girlie updates, and kid life is working out much better with this new space arrangement, which makes me happy, too! ;)  We ended up with this:

Transforming Ellie’s room was a pretty quick job. The basics stayed the same, and then we bought a Ikea Kallax unit, the baskets, gold dot decals, the little Ikea lamp, cloud pillow and the felt banner. We already had the bed, sheets, other pillows, toys, etc. which had been bought or given over the last couple years.
The baskets are huge. Two of them hold all Ellie’s clothes, one holds her shoes, the fourth one is empty. (Side note- does anyone else have these Ikea baskets? They are shedding! Little pieces just kind of flake off onto the shelves. That’s a first for me. Did I get dud baskets or is this just what these do? Not going to lie, it’s pretty annoying. haha)

The sheets are from Land of Nod during one of their bedding sales. After the discount, I’d say they’re definitely worth the slightly-more-than-Target price because they’re super soft, and obviously – cuuuute! I mean, who doesn’t love girlie poodles? haha The comforter and fleece blanket are both from Target, two years old and still going strong. haha

Random kid item recommendation: this little owl comes in a set of cardboard puzzles. We have the woodland set, but they have many different sets, and the kids adore these. Many hours spent putting them together and playing creatively with them. Love! Ok, moving on….

The closet hasn’t changed – the same setup is still working for us so far.

The table is the one that used to be in the other bedroom. I moved the coloring materials downstairs, so now they use the table for legos, finger puppet shows… and tea parties. ;)

Still to-do: add picture labels to the baskets so Ellie Bear can put her clothes away easily on her own. :)

Just a quickie update today! ;) Anyone else making changes in their home?

xoxo, Anna
